Among the cities of the Atlantic Rainforest Coast, Santos stands out as the largest and economically most important, being one of oldest Brazilian cities (founded in 1546). Its beach waterfront has the largest linear garden in the world being more than 5 km long, large hotel infrastructure, and several tourist attractions. Due to this background the city has been considered since the 1960’s as the most sportive in the country - surf arrived in Brazil through Santos’ waves. In the same period, the Santos Futebol Clube spread the city’s name to the four corners of the globe, not only for its soccer team, but also for showing the world the player who took soccer to a new stage: King Pelé. A beach town, it also has a metropolitan infrastructure and many beauties and attractions for all ages, all year round. So is Santos: located on an island, where cordiality, security and diverse environments are associated with a historical and cultural ecological wealth, turning the city into a unique destination. All this is found just 70 km from São Paulo, the largest Brazilian metropolis, close to major domestic and international airports, easily accessed by modern highways.
The scenario where Santos’ UNIFESP campus is inserted, translates itself into the Atlantic Rainforest Coast, which, over recent years, has been the tourist stamp created for the region, covering nine cities of the Baixada Santista: Bertioga, Cubatão, Guarujá, Santos, São Vicente, Praia Grande, Mongaguá, Itanhaém and Peruíbe. These nine cities form a single destination, with several options: beaches, ecotourism, leisure, adventure, sports, gastronomy, history, culture, and business. With options to suit all tastes, each city has its own peculiarities, but complements each other, offering 161 km of coastline, abundant rainforest and a high quality structure for business and events.
